Why use Vision Counselling?

From time to time everyone finds themselves in circumstances that they need to talk about. These circumstances could be due to occupational and practical problems or be more about personal and relational concerns.

Counselling at Vision will empower you to make the most of life’s opportunities by:

  • Helping you think constructively about personal issues and situations

  • Developing ways to increase your self-esteem and confidence

  • Assisting you to change behaviours that may cause you problems

  • Enhancing your interpersonal and life skills

  • Giving you opportunities to clarify your ideas and values

  • Helping you look to the potential opportunities in your future

What is our mission?

To provide a high-quality, cost effective and relevant service that will help the members of our community to fulfil their potential in life.

How long does counselling take?

The aim of Vision Counselling is to provide short-term counselling.

During your first session, which normally lasts around one hour, you will talk with your counsellor about what has brought you to counselling. You can then discuss with them what would be helpful to you in further counselling.

Some people who come to the centre are able to be helped in one or two sessions.  Others may need to see a counsellor from possibly three to ten sessions.

Sometimes it is appropriate to refer to other services or agencies for longer-term or more specialised help. Vision Counselling Centre has established contacts with other excellent professionals if the need arises.

Who are the counsellors at the Vision Counselling service?

All counsellors are university-trained, eligible for relevant association memberships and work to professional standards of practice.

What can you talk to the counsellors about?

We can offer individual help for:

  • personal concerns, crises and trauma

  • moods and feelings

  • marriage and family

  • relationships

  • drug, alcohol and eating disorders

  • stress

  • any other concerns that interfere with personal satisfaction

Is counselling confidential?

Yes - the content of counselling sessions is confidential and remains so, unless there are legal issues.

Do you have to attend a church?

No. Vision Counselling Centre is available to everyone in the community. Counselling is appropriate to the individual's beliefs and respects the dignity and uniqueness of each person.
